1. To me the main characters in the development of the atom were Democritus, who said that matter consisted of tiny particles and named the atoms. John Dalton, who came uo with the atomic theory which is 1. all matter is composed of very small indivisible particles called atoms. 2. Atoms of the same element are alike in weight and other properties, but different elements are different in weight and other properties. 3. Compoundeds are formed by union or separation of definite numbers of atoms. 4. Atoms do not divide in chemical reactions, only whole atoms unit with other atoms. J.J Thomson, who discovered electrons. Ernest Rutherford, who discovered protons. and James Chadwick, who discovered neutrons.

These people are different because they each did different experiements to find different parts of an atom. They each built on their own part to the structure and the finding of the atom. They each wanted to find and be apart of the discover of the atom in different ways.

2. The time period did effect how their experiments were done. They did not have the technology that people now days would have used. They had to think in their minds of ways to do experiments using things that did not cost a lot, because most of them were poor.

3. The atomic theory is still a theory because we have not yet proven everything that there is to prove about the atom yet.

4. It matters to understand the structure of an atom because the atom is the build block of almost everything such as a desk, air, and even people.
